From Cloud Confusion to DevOps Clarity - Raja's Journey

After feeling stuck and spending countless hours learning about different tools, Raja shares how the DevOps bootcamp gave her the structure, hands-on experience, and clarity she needed to master DevOps and finding a job at a multinational company

Raja's DevOps Journey - TechWorld with Nana DevOps Bootcamp Review

Hi Raja 👋 What is your IT background?

Raja DevOps Bootcamp Graduate

Before I started my journey into DevOps, I earned my Master’s degree in Quality Systems Engineering in Canada.

I then worked as an IT QA Analyst on a public cloud team there, eventually transitioning to a Cloud Engineer position.

In that role, I focused on ensuring the reliability of our cloud services and managed CI/CD pipeline releases 💪

This experience improved my analytical skills and sparked my interest in automation and continuous integration, which motivated me to pursue a career in DevOps 🤠

I worked in Canada for around 2.5 years, during which I was attending TWN's DevOps Bootcamp, as a preparation for my return to India 🇮🇳

Why did you decide to switch to DevOps?

I felt like my role started to feel repetitive.

I wanted to dive deeper into the tools and services used in the cloud and understand how everything is built.

I felt that moving into DevOps would not only challenge me more, but also allow me to be part of the entire development lifecycle 🎯

What struggles did you have, that caused you to enroll in TechWorld with Nana DevOps Bootcamp?

While working on cloud certifications, I realized I still struggled to connect all the concepts 😣

I was eager to learn new tools and improve my efficiency at work, but even after earning several cloud certifications, I felt like I was missing the bigger picture.

Like many people, I started my DevOps journey by exploring free resources—cloud certifications, YouTube videos, and blogs.

While they helped me grasp the basics, I struggled to see the bigger picture and connect everything I was learning 👀

That's when I discovered Nana's videos. I loved her teaching style and found her explanations really clear and helpful.

DevOps Bootcamp vs Tutorials

I spent countless hours learning about different tools, but I lacked hands-on experience.

That’s what motivated me to join Nana's bootcamp—I wanted structured guidance and practical experience to truly understand the flow of DevOps.

The bootcamp felt like the perfect opportunity to connect all the dots and take my skills to the next level 💪

You mentioned feeling stuck and overwhelmed by all the different tools and concepts. How did our program help you find that clarity?

It provided a well-structured curriculum that broke down complex concepts into manageable lessons.

Unlike other resources I’d tried, it focused heavily on hands-on projects that mirrored real-world scenarios. Which made learning really engaging 🙌

Nana's DevOps Bootcamp - Troubleshooting Skills

"The hands-on exercises weren’t just about following steps; they challenged me to troubleshoot issues and figure out solutions.

I enjoyed the process of breaking things and learning how to fix them—it felt like real problem-solving!" 😃

It taught me so much more than just theory ever could.

When I run into an issue at work, I'm now feeling confident that I will find the solution.

Additionally, the bootcamp offered Discord channels for each chapter, where I could connect with fellow learners and reach out to Support.

They were very responsive, which created an encouraging community that enhanced the learning experience even more. 😊

What Steps Did you Take to Land Your New Job?

Armed with the skills I gained from the bootcamp, I was planning to switch to a DevOps engineer role as I was moving back to India 👏

So I took several key steps to land my new job:

getting hired as devops engineer - techworld with nana
  1. Updated My LinkedIn Profile: I highlighted all the tools and skills I learned during the bootcamp to showcase my expertise.

  2. Organized My Projects: I curated my GitLab profile, providing brief explanations for each project to clearly demonstrate what I had worked on.

  3. Revamped My Resume: I made sure my resume reflected my new skills and experiences, focusing on my hands-on work from the bootcamp.

  4. Applied for Jobs: I actively started applying for positions that aligned with my new career goals.

For interview preparation, I made sure not to skip any chapters or exercises from the bootcamp.

I also dedicated time each day to go through scenario-based interview questions on YouTube and LinkedIn, focusing on the most commonly used tools in DevOps.

What type of projects are you working on that require your new DevOps skills?

I’m currently working on a few projects that involve DevOps skills.

One main focus is developing CI/CD pipelines for deploying infrastructure using Terraform. This helps automate our deployment process. ✅

I also deploy virtual machines for load balancers in a private cloud and use Ansible to configure servers, which makes everything more consistent.

Additionally, I use kubectl commands to troubleshoot issues in Kubernetes, helping keep our applications running smoothly.

For observability, I’m scraping metrics with Prometheus and collecting logs to send to logging tools.

This setup allows us to monitor performance and quickly solve any problems.

Do you think our DevOps Bootcamp prepared you well for real-life work?

Absolutely, the bootcamp prepared me so well for real-world challenges! 🚀

It gave me plenty of hands-on experience, which boosted my confidence in tackling new challenges. The exercises and projects helped me develop a deep understanding of the concepts.

Even now, I’m continually learning new tools and ideas at work 😇

My experience from the bootcamp has equipped me to handle real-time projects effectively.

I know I can get things to work, even if it takes a bit of time sometimes.

"Even when I face something completely new, I know I have the foundation and confidence to figure it out. That’s been a game-changer for me."

Any recommendation and tips for anyone who is just starting out on the same journey?

My biggest tip is to stay consistent 💪

I finished the bootcamp in about 6-7 months while working full-time, because I wanted to make a real impact at my job and work on something I truly enjoyed.

There were times I questioned my path, but I realized everyone’s timeline is different.

Practice more often, get hands-on, and take your time to learn the tools or concepts.

"Keep pushing through, and trust that it will be worth your time and effort in the end!"
